The AGS was founded as the Conference of University Teachers of German in Great Britain and Ireland (CUTG) in 1932. In 2009 it became the Association for German Studies in Great Britain and Ireland.
An annual conference focuses on cutting-edge research in German Studies. New for 2020, we offer grants for conferences and workshops. The AGS supports postgraduate scholars with its travel grants, and offers publication grants for early career researchers without institutional support. Intra-disciplinary discussions and communications (including job and funding opportunities) are enabled by the AGS-sponsored e-mail discussion list german-studies, which you can join here.
Conferences are arranged, and in general the affairs of the Association are conducted, by an Executive Committee. Committee members are elected at the annual business meeting of the AGS (which is held during the annual conference), and normally serve for three years.
